Criminal Proceedings Initiated Against Police Officers in Fes
The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fes is set to commence the trial of six police officers from the city of Taza on October 13, 2026. Among those facing charges is the head of the Anti-Gang Unit, who has been implicated in a case concerning allegations of corruption and the breach of professional secrecy. This significant legal development follows a thorough investigation by the National Police Judicial Brigade, which scrutinized the officers' suspected connections to drug traffickers.
According to sources, these proceedings were initiated after the investigative judge took action based on a complaint received by the General Directorate of National Security (DGNS) from a whistleblower. This complaint accused the officers of engaging in criminal activities and misconduct potentially punishable under the penal code. In response to these serious allegations, the DGNS tasked the Internal Security Inspection with conducting an inquiry in June 2023.
Upon completing its investigations, the Internal Security Inspection concluded that the allegations against the involved police officers bore a criminal nature rather than an administrative one. Consequently, the National Police Judicial Brigade intervened to carry out a judicial inquiry into the matter, leading to the current judicial phase. The culmination of this legal process has resulted in the six officers being referred to the Criminal Chamber, where their trial will begin on the specified date. This case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within law enforcement agencies and restore public trust in the police force.
