Call for Fair Compensation for Quranic School Supervisors in Morocco

Hanane El Masi, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the House of Representatives, has directed a written inquiry to the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, advocating for the fair treatment of Quranic school supervisors. She emphasized the need to review and enhance the compensation allocated to these supervisors, thereby improving their professional and social conditions in alignment with the critical roles they play across various regions of the Kingdom.

El Masi highlighted that the government issued Decree No. 2.25.1116, which increased the allowances for several personnel within the traditional education sector, including educational inspectors, general supervisors, and economic managers, raising their compensation to 2500 dirhams starting from October 2025. However, this decree notably excluded the Quranic school supervisors, despite their affiliation with the Directorate of Traditional Education, leaving their allowance stagnant at 1500 dirhams without any revisions.

She pointed out that this group, comprising 305 supervisors nationwide, is instrumental in monitoring and guiding Quranic schools throughout the Kingdom, including in mountainous, rural, and remote areas. They face significant challenges, such as long distances and the constraints of travel, coupled with limited available resources.

Furthermore, El Masi noted that Quranic school supervisors still struggle with inadequate access to social protection and health coverage, raising concerns about fairness among different personnel within the traditional education sector. This situation necessitates practical measures to enhance their professional and social conditions.

In closing her inquiry, the parliamentarian requested information from the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs regarding the actions and measures the ministry plans to implement to improve the conditions of Quranic school supervisors. She urged for a review of their compensations and an increase that reflects the magnitude of their responsibilities, reinforcing the acknowledgment of their essential roles in promoting traditional education and preserving the Kingdom's religious identity.
