The Brussels government has made a significant decision by appointing Moustapha Budchich, the chief of staff for Ahmed Laaouej of the Socialist Party (PS), as the new regional diplomatic representative to Morocco. This appointment comes amid an internal restructuring within the Socialist Party, reflecting a broader reassessment of the region's international representation. The Brussels Region has been facing the need to reduce expenditures, leading to a comprehensive reorganization of its international network of trade and economic attachés. Notably, out of the 33 offices operated abroad, 14 will be closed, including the one in Havana, Cuba.
Simultaneously, the administration of Boris Dilliès from the Mouvement Réformateur (MR) is looking to invest in strategically important areas. Among these initiatives, the office in Rabat has been targeted for enhancement, indicating its importance within Brussels' international agenda. Last week, the government officially sanctioned the continuation and strengthening of this representation, while also confirming Budchich’s appointment, effective from September 1 for a term of five years. This information was validated by Dilliès' office, which oversees external relations, following its initial disclosure in the newspaper _L’Echo_.
