Accelerating Infrastructure Development: A Focus on the Taounate Road Project

The editorial team at Ardbadi reports that on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the provincial governor of Taounate conducted an on-site inspection of the critical project aimed at dualizing National Road No. 8, which connects Fez and Taounate. This visit was part of an official delegation that included representatives from local authorities, the regional equipment department, the regional project execution agency, as well as officials from partnering institutions and the companies responsible for the project's execution.

This field visit followed a comprehensive meeting of the provincial committee dedicated to monitoring the project, where the governor emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure that the works progress according to the established timeline. The inspection covered several vital points, including the advancement of rehabilitation works in the Ain Aicha community center, the assessment of landslide sites identified in the Hdadah area, as well as in Bouaitah and Bahahida neighborhoods. Furthermore, the governor inspected the construction of engineering structures over the El-Anzarat River and the measures taken to protect drinking water pipelines running alongside the road.

Regarding the technical overlap between the road path and the water channel supplying the communities of the Tissa circle from the Idriss I dam, the provincial authority instructed the swift initiation of the channel rerouting process to avoid any disruptions in the ongoing works. During discussions with the project managers, the governor urged the involved companies to intensify their human and logistical resources while strictly adhering to the stipulations of the contracts and the approved technical standards. He also placed utmost importance on ensuring the safety of road users, directing that temporary traffic signage be enhanced, especially with the noticeable increase in traffic during the summer holiday season.

It is noteworthy that this strategic road project, stretching over 73 kilometers, has an overall budget of approximately 1.56 billion dirhams. This initiative is part of a broader partnership involving the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, the Northern Regions Development and Promotion Agency, and the Taounate Provincial Council.

Officials are counting on this project to serve as a fundamental driver for territorial development by improving transportation fluidity, reducing travel time between Fez and Taounate, and enhancing road safety. Ultimately, this will contribute to stimulating the economic and tourism dynamics in the region, fostering a connection with its surrounding environment.

This series of frequent field visits reflects the regional authority's commitment to a close governance approach that aims at meticulously monitoring various developmental projects and proactively addressing technical and field obstacles to ensure the timely realization of significant developmental undertakings.
