A New Era in Healthcare: GITEX Future Health Africa Conference Kicks Off in Casablanca

In a significant gathering aimed at revitalizing healthcare across the continent, Casablanca, Morocco, is currently hosting the GITEX Future Health Africa conference, which commenced on May 4. This transformative event has attracted hundreds of distinguished leaders from various sectors, including healthcare professionals, investors, startups, and exhibitors. Under the esteemed patronage of King Mohammed VI, a fervent supporter of African health sovereignty, the conference aspires to fundamentally change Africa's struggling healthcare system by prioritizing patient-centered care.

Spanning three days, the conference is replete with a diverse array of activities, including scientific conferences, panel discussions, and specialized workshops. A significant highlight of the event will be the exhibition and innovation space, which aims to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), telemedicine, and other cutting-edge digital technologies to propel healthcare advancements throughout Africa. Key topics of discussion will encompass continental health policies and regulations, the exploration of sustainable healthcare financing models, and the pursuit of a more compassionate health system that integrates data, design, and digital empathy.

The conference will be a platform for global health leaders, African Ministers of Health, government officials, and representatives from international institutions and investment funds to engage in meaningful dialogue centered around the theme: “Digitising Africa’s healthcare future: Essential care advancing with AI.” The collaborative effort is driven by KOAUN International, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health (FM6SS), and the Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

The agenda for the conference is meticulously structured to address various critical themes each day. On the first day, discussions will focus on health sovereignty, financing for Universal Health Coverage, and the alignment of multilateral health policies across Africa, alongside the decentralization of epidemiological intelligence and policy. The following day will delve into operational resilience, next-generation hospital design, core digital infrastructure, and the role of AI in diagnostics and laboratory technology. The conference will culminate on Wednesday with a focus on integrated care strategies, data governance, patient experience intelligence, and the ethical implications of AI in healthcare.

Moreover, the event has drawn a remarkable array of exhibitors from several countries, including Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia, and many others across Europe and Asia, emphasizing the global interest in this vital sector. During the announcement of the conference's launch at the third edition of GITEX AFRICA Morocco in 2025, Mr. Amine Tehraoui, Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, expressed optimism that this initiative would catalyze the development of a futuristic health system. He articulated, “GITEX FUTURE HEALTH AFRICA/Morocco embodies the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to health as a fundamental and universal human right, enshrined in our national vision for health system reform.”

As the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve with digital innovation and data intelligence, this conference reinforces Morocco’s strategic position as a regional hub for collaboration, talent, and investment in the health tech sector. This collective endeavor signifies a crucial step towards a healthier future for Africa.
