Zineb Bouziane's Journey to Success in Spain
Zineb Bouziane, a remarkable individual who has successfully carved out a future for herself in Spain, serves as a testament to the power of determination and support systems. Originally from Tangier, Morocco, Zineb harbored dreams of living in Europe for two decades. In 2022, she made that dream a reality by relocating to Ponferrada, where she faced the dual challenges of language barriers and cultural adjustments. With no acquaintances and limited Spanish proficiency, Zineb turned to Cáritas, a nonprofit organization that became her entry point into Spanish society. It was here that she began learning the language and received guidance on how to validate her academic qualifications. The Comarcal Council of Bierzo became instrumental in her journey, providing a program dedicated to the recognition of foreign academic credentials, which laid the groundwork for her successful integration into the local community.
Fast forward nearly four years, Zineb is now the technical director of the Guarantee Brand of Bierzo Honey, a significant achievement that reflects her hard work and resilience. Since 2021, nearly 400 immigrants have successfully validated their academic qualifications, thanks to the dedicated services offered by the Employment and Placement Agency of the Council. In the year 2025 alone, 86 individuals benefited from this program, and as of this year, 41 validations have already occurred, showcasing the ongoing support available for newcomers.
The Importance of Support in Zineb's Transition
Before embarking on her journey to Spain, Zineb completed her law studies, including a master's degree and a banking technician qualification, in Morocco. Her previous experience working in a bank equipped her with a solid foundation, yet the transition to a new country required her to start anew. Zineb first validated her high school diploma to enroll at the Mercurio Center for Studies in Ponferrada, where she pursued a higher degree in Administration and Finance. She secured a position in the same company where she completed her internship, marking the beginning of a promising career.
Throughout this transformative process, Zineb received unwavering support from the Comarcal Council, which guided her on the necessary steps, documentation, and provided companionship during what could have been a daunting journey. “This service significantly eases the path for those of us coming from abroad, especially for individuals eager to integrate, study, work, and build our futures,” Zineb asserts. The staff at the Employment and Placement Agency believed in her abilities, playing a crucial role during a time when she felt lost and contemplated distancing herself from her past experiences.
Mercurio also played a pivotal role in her adaptation, offering an encouraging and motivating environment that facilitated her academic advancement. Zineb recalls how her first employer made her feel included from day one, treating her as a professional member of the team without any differentiation due to her foreign background. This nurturing atmosphere has been essential in allowing her to navigate a new phase filled with challenges, learning, and opportunities, as she gained confidence and security in her future. Zineb is acutely aware that not every immigrant has the same opportunities, which makes her achievements even more significant.
Currently, as the technical director of the Guarantee Brand of Bierzo Honey, Zineb remains committed to her professional growth, especially in the field of law. She plans to continue her education by validating her law degree and pursuing a Bachelor’s in Law in Spain. To achieve this, she will seek the ongoing support of the Comarcal Council, with whom she maintains contact to facilitate her academic equivalency process. Zineb passionately advocates for the support services provided by local institutions, emphasizing their importance for immigrant populations. “Many people arrive with qualifications and experience but lack the knowledge of how to validate them in Spain. This support promotes integration and opens many doors,” she concludes.
