Walid Regragui Makes First Public Appearance Since Resignation from Morocco National Team

Walid Regragui's Return to the Spotlight

Former coach of the Moroccan national football team, Walid Regragui, recently surprised his fans with his first public appearance since officially resigning from his position in March. The 50-year-old was spotted enjoying a meal with Achraf Hakimi, the captain of the Atlas Lions, in a restaurant. This moment was widely shared across social media platforms, generating considerable interest and engagement among fans.

Since his departure from the Moroccan national team, which he guided to a remarkable semi-final run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Regragui had remained out of the media spotlight. Despite speculation linking him with various clubs and national teams during this period, he had not made any public appearances or statements.

The Bond Between Regragui and Hakimi

In the widely circulated image, Regragui is seen alongside Hakimi, accompanied by two individuals who appear to be fans of both the former coach and the current player. While the exact location of this meeting was not disclosed, it is believed to have taken place in Morocco, where Hakimi is currently resting following an injury that kept him from participating in Paris Saint-Germain's crucial UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The relationship between Regragui and Hakimi is notably strong, as the latter was one of the key players in the Moroccan squad that achieved historic success in the World Cup and won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. Following nearly four years in charge, Regragui officially announced his resignation from the Moroccan national team on March 5, 2026. During his tenure, he led the Atlas Lions in 49 matches, achieving an impressive record of 36 victories, 8 draws, and only 5 losses.

Just hours after Regragui's resignation, the Moroccan Football Federation appointed Mohamed Wahbi as the new head coach, who previously enjoyed success in leading the U-20 national team to a World Cup title. Wahbi is expected to guide the Moroccan team in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will compete in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
