Comprehensive Infrastructure Rehabilitation in Safi
An urgent and integrated program has been initiated to rehabilitate the infrastructure and urban spaces in the city of Safi, reflecting the ongoing commitment of King Mohammed VI to the well-being of citizens. This initiative is a direct response to the catastrophic flooding that impacted Safi on December 14, 2025, aimed at improving the quality of infrastructure and enhancing the living conditions of the population.
This program is part of a comprehensive mobilization of various governmental sectors and public institutions, with the Marrakech-Safi Development Company assigned the role of project manager. They are responsible for ensuring that the planned projects are executed to the highest technical standards and within the specified timelines.
Key Projects and Objectives
The Marrakech-Safi Development Company is carrying out these projects in partnership with several ministries, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and City Policy. The program aims to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure, enhance the attractiveness of Safi, improve the quality of urban spaces, and strengthen the city's resilience to natural disasters. Key projects include the restoration and reinforcement of the damaged parts of the ancient city wall, redevelopment of the northern entrance to the old town, rehabilitation of the road leading to Safi beach, and improvements along Hassan II Street.
Work on these various projects commenced in April 2026 and is progressing rapidly. This includes strengthening the road infrastructure, renewing sewage networks, reconditioning sidewalks, improving public lighting, and undertaking necessary urban space enhancements according to the latest technical and engineering standards to ensure the sustainability of these facilities and the quality of services provided to residents. The program is under daily supervision by the Governor of Safi Province, who is personally overseeing the progress through regular coordination meetings and continuous field visits in collaboration with various ministries, partner institutions, and the development company.
This initiative exemplifies collective mobilization and institutional coordination among various stakeholders, aimed at optimally implementing royal directives, achieving sustainable urban development, enhancing the attractiveness of Safi, and improving the quality of life for its residents, solidifying its status as an economic, industrial, and tourist hub within the Marrakech-Safi region.
