Uncovering a Sophisticated Drug Tunnel in Ceuta: The Inner Workings Revealed

The National Police have uncovered a complex underground infrastructure in Ceuta that was used to smuggle tons of hashish into Spain. This sophisticated drug tunnel, cleverly concealed behind a large soundproof refrigerator, consisted of three distinct levels: an entrance shaft, an intermediate chamber for storing bales, and a final exit leading to Morocco. The movement of contraband within this tunnel was facilitated by an intricate system of rails, carts, pulleys, and cranes, enabling the discreet transportation of substantial quantities of the illicit product.

Situated beneath an industrial warehouse, the design of this underground passage allowed for the transfer of bales without any direct visual contact among those involved in the smuggling operation. Furthermore, the tunnel was equipped with a complex pumping and soundproofing system, ensuring that operations could proceed without drawing any suspicion. Additionally, there was a pantry-like storage area specifically designated for holding the drug-laden pallets prior to their eventual extraction.

The bales were hoisted up using pulleys from a labyrinthine lower section, with carts traversing a meticulously constructed rail system. The police organized their investigation in multiple phases, commencing in February 2025 after focusing their efforts on Ceuta. Once the leadership of the group was identified, it became clear that the network was directed by two key individuals: one, arrested on March 26 from Morocco and dubbed the "narc-architect," and another apprehended in Ceuta, who was the owner of all the confiscated drugs.
