Ukraine and Morocco Establish Direct Road Transport Agreement to Enhance Trade

The Ukrainian Parliament has recently ratified a significant agreement between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Morocco, facilitating international road transport. This landmark decision has effectively created a direct logistics route for Ukrainian businesses, allowing them to engage more efficiently with Moroccan markets. Previously, transportation between these two nations relied heavily on third-party countries, which not only inflated costs but also hindered the speed of exports. With this new agreement, Ukrainian carriers are now empowered to operate directly, thereby expanding their international reach and bolstering the export of Ukrainian goods.

In the context of ongoing geopolitical tensions, it is noteworthy that Morocco has previously supported Ukraine by transferring essential components for Т-72 tanks during the Russian invasion. As of 2024, trade turnover between Ukraine and Morocco has reached approximately $280 million, with projections indicating further growth. The Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Serhii Derkach, highlighted that this ratification directly addresses market demands, stating, "Ratification removes these barriers and allows Ukrainian carriers to directly perform transportation, expand their presence in international markets, and support exports of Ukrainian products." This sentiment underlines the strategic importance of the agreement in enhancing trade efficiency and economic collaboration.

The newly established agreement delineates the access rules for carriers to the international market while specifying conditions for cargo and passenger transportation. It encompasses various forms of delivery, including bilateral, transit, and third-country shipments. This framework is expected to open new logistical pathways for Ukraine, ultimately reducing operational costs and accelerating the distribution of goods to North African markets.

In a related development, Ukraine has also launched its inaugural agro-hub in the Republic of Ghana. This initiative serves as a food processing and distribution center aimed at integrating humanitarian aid with local economic development, as articulated by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko. The agro-hub is the culmination of agreements established during the Food from Ukraine conference held in November 2025, highlighting Ukraine's commitment to fostering international partnerships and enhancing food security on a global scale.
