Morocco and Mali Forge Stronger Bonds Through Professional Training
The Moroccan diplomatic community has announced a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the professional training landscape in Mali. This project will establish an infrastructure capable of accommodating nearly 1,000 trainees annually across 21 specialized training programs. These programs will cover 12 areas dedicated to construction and public works, alongside 9 sectors focused on tourism, hospitality, and culinary arts. This strategic development is poised to bolster local skills and capacity building.
During a recent visit to the site, Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, emphasized the royal vision that underpins South-South cooperation. This vision is rooted in solidarity, knowledge sharing, and the enhancement of local competencies, reinforcing the bonds between the two nations.
Oumou Sall Seck, Mali's Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training, lauded the initiative as a “gesture of great significance that embodies the historical ties of brotherhood and solidarity” that connect the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali. She pointed out that this initiative directly addresses Mali's strategic need for skill development, which is critical for the country’s progress.
Furthermore, on Friday, Bamako reaffirmed its stance in support of Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region. The Malian government reiterated its backing for Morocco's autonomy plan, describing it as the “only credible and realistic solution” for resolving this regional dispute, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025. This position was articulated in a joint statement concluding the fourth session of the Morocco-Mali Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by N. Bourita and his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop. The statement also expressed Bamako's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy.
This reaffirmation of support follows the Malian government's announcement on April 10, 2026, regarding its official withdrawal of recognition of the Polisario. The decision was made after a thorough analysis of the critical issues surrounding the Sahara, which has implications for regional peace and security.
