On June 11th, Abdelatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, welcomed Alexander Kido Lopez Barula, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil accredited to Morocco, at his office located in the new headquarters of the Directorate General of National Security in Rabat. This significant meeting served as a platform for both parties to discuss and enhance the distinguished levels of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federative Republic of Brazil in various security domains of mutual interest.
The discussions primarily focused on critical areas such as border security, counter-terrorism efforts, and combating transnational crime. This meeting not only highlighted the existing cooperative frameworks but also allowed the representatives to evaluate the current state of their bilateral security collaboration. They aimed to establish a shared strategic vision to strengthen cooperative mechanisms in police training, combating irregular migration networks, and monitoring and countering the movements of terrorist organizations in the Sahel and Sahara regions.
This encounter aligns with the ongoing commitment from both sides to implement the provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between the Director General of National Security and the Director General of the Brazilian Federal Police. The memorandum aims to outline and enhance the channels of mutual cooperation between Moroccan and Brazilian security services, particularly in combating organized transnational crime, which includes preventing and combating drug trafficking, terrorism, human trafficking, and the illegal trade of firearms, ammunition, explosives, money laundering, document forgery, and cybercrime.
The meeting underscored the dedication of the Directorate General of National Security and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance to activate security partnerships with friendly and allied nations, through a sustainable vision aimed at bolstering effective integration to confront emerging criminal and terrorist threats. This commitment reflects Morocco’s proactive stance in maintaining a secure environment for its citizens and fostering international cooperation in the realm of security.
