During a recent visit to Morocco, Bankole Adeoye, the African Union's Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, held significant talks in Rabat with high-ranking officials from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). The discussions focused on critical contemporary challenges, particularly those related to cybersecurity. The necessity to enhance Africa's capabilities against digital threats was paramount, alongside the imperative of conducting joint military exercises among African nations to improve readiness and coordination in response to various security challenges.
The FAR, in a communiqué released this Thursday, emphasized that this engagement underscores Morocco's pivotal role as a strategic partner on the continent. It also reflects the African Union's dedication to reinforcing its collaboration with the Kingdom in tackling both traditional and modern security issues. While Adeoye did not publicly comment on his discussions with Moroccan military leaders on social media, he did highlight his earlier conversation with Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.
Notably, during his inaugural visit to Rabat in November 2021, Adeoye acknowledged Morocco's significant contributions to security and development policy across Africa, reiterating the Kingdom's influential position within the continent's geopolitical landscape.
