Strengthening Security: African Lion 26 Unites Global Forces in Morocco

In a significant display of international military collaboration, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces' special operations units participated in a photo session during the African Lion 26 exercise at Cap Draa, Tan-Tan, Morocco, on April 20, 2026. This vital training initiative brought together joint terminal attack controllers (JTACs) from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, Canadian Armed Forces, and Hungarian Armed Forces. The primary objective was to promote the exchange of essential tactics, techniques, and procedures, thereby enhancing the development of a unified JTAC cadre among the participating nations.

African Lion 26 stands as U.S. Africa Command's most extensive annual joint exercise, meticulously designed to bolster the collective security capabilities of the United States, African nations, and allied partners worldwide. This year, the exercise is spearheaded by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and is scheduled to run from April 20 to May 8, 2026. The event spans multiple host countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal, and it involves the participation of over 5,600 military and civilian personnel from more than 40 different nations. Through this initiative, the focus is on leveraging innovative strategies to enhance regional security led by partner nations.

As part of operational security, select faces in the photographs have been blurred to protect identities. This collaborative effort is documented in the work titled "US, Hungarian, Canadian JTACs train alongside Moroccan special operations forces during Justified Accord 26" by SGT Christopher Sanchez, which can be found on the DVIDS platform.
