Significant Developments in Moroccan Border Renovations: Expected Openings in May

Major Renovations at the Moroccan Border Near Ceuta

The ongoing renovation works at the Moroccan border are reaching a pivotal stage, marking a significant transition for the border between Morocco and Ceuta. Activist Driss El Ouahabi has taken to his social media platforms to share concrete timelines regarding this large-scale border project. He has provided updates concerning the anticipated reopening of the border, which is nearly completed on the Moroccan side, particularly in the lower section of the border area.

According to El Ouahabi, authorities from Morocco have indicated that the renovated border will be opened very soon, with expectations set for full accessibility to and from Morocco between May 1 and May 10. This reopening will allow for unrestricted movement across the border during this period, which is scheduled to last from May until October. Following this time frame, there are plans to temporarily close the exit from Ceuta to Morocco for further adjustments and enhancements to the border facilities.

It is important to note that this closure will not result in a complete shutdown of the border; rather, it will affect certain sections, redirecting traffic through alternative points. The customs area is distinctly divided into two separate zones: the lower section, which is closest to the sea, is designated for entry from Morocco into Ceuta, while the upper section facilitates departures from Ceuta to Morocco. The lower section is set to reopen in May following the completion of the renovations.

The renovations aim to enhance the passport control systems, ensuring a more efficient and modernized border experience. It has been reported that changes to traffic and movement will remain in effect during the ongoing infrastructural improvements, ensuring that the border functions effectively for both residents and visitors alike.
