SIAM 2026: Pioneering Agro-Industrial Development in Marrakech-Safi
The 18th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), taking place from April 20 to April 28 in Meknès, highlights the ambitious strategy of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Investment Center (CRI-MS) to establish the region as an integrated agro-industrial hub. This initiative focuses on harnessing the area’s agricultural potential while enhancing processing and export chains. The CRI-MS aims to convert the vast agricultural capabilities of the region into tangible industrial value through a strategic axis centered on "Producing, Transforming, and Exporting".
At the heart of this initiative are significant performance indicators that showcase the agricultural strength of the Marrakech-Safi region. With over 940,000 hectares dedicated to cereal production and an annual vegetable output reaching 665,000 tons, the region is a powerhouse in agriculture. The olive oil sector, a crucial part of the local agricultural landscape, boasts a production of 385,000 tons, supported by a structured industrial network comprising around 650 oil mills. Furthermore, Marrakech-Safi reaffirms its national leadership in emblematic crops like capers, while simultaneously strengthening its centers of excellence, particularly with the Nadorcott clementine and the argan tree sector.
A Strategic Platform for Investment Attraction
According to Hanaa Zouzaf, head of the integrated territorial development service at CRI-MS, the center is strategically positioned to attract investment flows to the Marrakech-Safi region. The region’s participation in this international showcase, featuring over 1,500 exhibitors, significantly enhances its visibility. Zouzaf emphasized that the rich agricultural potential, combined with already operational processing capacities and comprehensive support, makes Marrakech-Safi a prime destination for agro-industrial projects. Through its presence at SIAM, CRI-MS aims to demonstrate that the region possesses all the necessary levers to foster a resilient economic ecosystem capable of addressing food security challenges and enhancing export competitiveness.
This year’s SIAM, organized under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, hosts more than 1,500 exhibitors, 500 cooperatives, and 200 breeders, alongside 45 foreign delegations, with attendance expected to exceed 1.1 million visitors. Spanning 37 hectares, the event runs until April 28 under the theme of “Sustainability of Animal Production and Food Sovereignty,” featuring the participation of 70 countries, with Portugal serving as the guest of honor.
