Severe Weather Conditions Peak in Morocco with Rising Temperatures and Thunder Showers

Unpredictable Weather Patterns Ahead for Morocco

In the coming days, Morocco is set to experience a transitional and volatile weather situation influenced by various atmospheric pressure systems. According to Hussein Yoad, the head of communication at the General Directorate of Meteorology, the country will encounter a combination of hot weather and thunderstorm disturbances before gradually returning to stability. Yoad explained that this weather situation is attributed to a heat low originating from the Sahara, affecting the southern and central regions of the kingdom, which contributes to rising temperatures. Concurrently, an upper-level low approaching with cold air masses in the higher layers of the atmosphere is expected to impact particularly the northern parts of the country. This interaction between the warmer air near the surface and the cooler air aloft is likely to lead to the formation of unstable clouds, which may be accompanied by showers that could occasionally be strong.

Yoad noted that the peak of these disturbances is anticipated specifically on Thursday and Friday, with thunderstorms expected to develop over the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, and the eastern region, potentially accompanied by significant rainfall and localized hail. Strong wind gusts are also anticipated, especially in the southeastern areas, raising the likelihood of dust storms and reduced visibility.

Detailed Weather Forecast for the Upcoming Days

Looking ahead to Thursday, a relatively hot weather pattern is predicted for the southeastern and southernmost parts of Morocco due to the extension of hot air masses. Meanwhile, thunderstorms are expected to impact the Rif, the Middle and High Atlas regions, as well as the northern part of the eastern region and Oulmes. Light and scattered rain is also anticipated in Tangier and the Atlantic plains north of El Jadida. Wind conditions are expected to be relatively strong in various regions, notably in the southeastern and eastern areas, as well as in the desert regions, with a possibility of dust lifting. Temperatures are expected to vary, with relatively cool conditions in the elevated areas ranging from 8 to 13 degrees Celsius, while the southeastern regions may see temperatures soar to 38 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, unstable weather will persist, with thunderstorms expected in the Rif, the western Mediterranean coast, and the Middle Atlas, potentially extending to the northern part of the eastern region. Light, occasionally thunderous rain is likely in the High Atlas, Saïss, the phosphates plateaus, and Oulmes. Wind conditions will remain relatively strong, particularly in the southeastern regions and along the southern Atlantic coasts, with dust storms possible in certain areas. A noticeable decrease in temperatures is anticipated across most regions of the kingdom, contributing to a more temperate atmosphere.

As Saturday approaches, relatively hot weather will continue in the southeastern and southernmost regions, while thunderstorms may persist in the Rif, with potential light rain in the northern eastern region and the western Mediterranean coast. Strong wind gusts are expected along the central and southern coasts. Conversely, a slight increase in temperatures is forecasted in the north, while minor decreases may occur in the south, reflecting the ongoing thermal disparity between different regions of the country.

From Sunday to Wednesday of the upcoming week, the weather is expected to remain unstable, with low clouds and localized fog particularly affecting the northern Atlantic plains and the Mediterranean coast, as well as northern regions of the southern provinces. Unstable weather conditions are likely to persist in the Atlas and Rif regions, especially at the beginning of this period. A decrease in temperatures is forecasted for Wednesday, followed by a potential rise or stabilization in the following days. In conclusion, Yoad urged residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms due to the risk of hail and strong winds, as well as dust storms that may impair visibility. He emphasized that these fluctuations are typical characteristics of the spring season, which is known for rapid changes in weather conditions and variability.
