On the morning of Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the historic square of Sidi Youssef in Marrakech witnessed a surprise security operation targeting a number of tourism transport professionals and taxi drivers who were occupying the area haphazardly. This situation was causing significant disruptions to traffic flow and inconveniencing both local residents and visitors alike.
This intervention was carried out under the supervision of local security authorities, with the participation of motorcycle units and personnel from the third police district. It was a response to the increasing complaints voiced by residents and merchants, along with grievances from tourists regarding the chaotic conditions that had developed in the square.
