U.S. Soldiers Disappear During African Lion 2026 Military Exercises
Two American soldiers have been reported missing since Saturday while participating in joint military exercises in southwestern Morocco, as confirmed by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). The soldiers were involved in the African Lion 2026 drills when their disappearance was noted on May 2, near the training area of Cap Draa, close to the Moroccan city of Tan Tan.
In response to the situation, AFRICOM has promptly initiated a coordinated search and rescue operation, which includes Moroccan forces as well as other contingents taking part in the exercises, involving over 5,600 military personnel from more than 40 countries. The command emphasized that the incident is currently under investigation, and the search efforts continue unabated.
