On April 14, a Ryanair flight destined for Marrakech took off empty from Vatry Airport in northeastern France, leaving behind 192 passengers who had booked their seats. This unprecedented incident occurred due to a shortage of security personnel required for passenger screening, as many employees of the subcontractor "Securus" reported illness. Fabrice Pauquet, the airport director, explained that the situation was unforeseen; no security team was present at the time of check-in opening, and it was impossible to mobilize a replacement team in time. Consequently, the aircraft, scheduled for a three-and-a-half-hour flight to Morocco, departed without any passengers on board.
As of now, none of the affected travelers have received any compensation. The question of liability remains unresolved: the airport claims that any additional costs should fall on the airline, which may, in turn, seek to recover these costs from its service provider. However, Ryanair has informed its passengers that no compensation is due, citing circumstances beyond its control, even though passengers argue that the situation does not qualify as a strike.
