Rabat Set to Welcome FIFA's 77th Electoral Congress
The city of Rabat has been selected to host the 77th Electoral Congress of FIFA, scheduled for March 18, 2027. This significant event marks the second occasion that the Kingdom of Morocco is honored to organize such a prestigious gathering, following the Ordinary General Assembly held in Marrakech in 2005. The announcement was made on April 30, 2026, by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the 76th Congress of the global football governing body, which took place in Vancouver, Canada.
During this congress, attended by representatives of national football associations, including the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, Infantino also declared his intention to run for a fourth term as FIFA President in 2027. The decision to host the congress in Morocco was unanimously supported by the members of the FIFA Council present in Vancouver, underscoring the confidence placed in Morocco as a capable organizer of major international events.
Furthermore, Infantino announced that an extraordinary FIFA Congress will occur virtually on November 23, 2026, to designate the host countries for the 2031 and 2035 editions of the Women's World Cup. During the 76th Congress, the FIFA member associations approved the 2025 annual report, which included a record budget for the 2027-2030 cycle, estimating revenues of $14 billion to be reinvested in the development of football. This new financial commitment will allow member associations to see an eightfold increase in investments aimed at enhancing football development compared to prior programs established before 2016.
The decision to host this global sports event in Rabat reaffirms Morocco's distinguished reputation and the trust it has earned in organizing significant international gatherings, as highlighted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation on its official website.
