Trial Delayed for Taza Council President Amid Fake Invoices Scandal
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into a network involved in fraudulent invoicing and the establishment of fictitious companies, the criminal chamber of the court in Fes has postponed the trial of Abdelilah Baaziz, the President of the Taza Regional Council and a prominent figure in the National Rally of Independents party, along with several accomplices. The court session, originally scheduled for today, May 8, 2026, has been rescheduled to May 22, 2026, due to the absence of the presiding judge, Counselor Abdelmajid Wazzani, which hindered the proceedings.
This case has emerged following extensive investigations conducted by the regional police department, which culminated in the prosecution of eleven suspects, including Baaziz and his two brothers. They are suspected of being part of a network that engages in the issuance of illegal invoices and the creation of fictitious businesses. Following their interrogation, the public prosecutor decided to pursue charges against them while they remain in custody, resulting in their transfer to the local prison in Bourkaiz, as the case was referred to the criminal chamber to initiate trial procedures.
The individuals involved in this case face multiple charges, including forgery and use of forged documents, fraud, and the preparation of documents and certifications containing inaccurate information. Additionally, there are suspicions regarding their involvement in tax evasion related to the use of fake invoices and counterfeit commercial documents.
