Nick Cannon Sets the Record Straight on Daughter Monroe's Sibling Comments

Clarifying Monroe's Comments

Nick Cannon has taken the opportunity to clarify the viral comments made by his daughter, Monroe, regarding her siblings. During a recent interview on the 'Club Shay Shay' podcast with host Shannon Sharpe, Cannon, 45, explained that the misunderstanding stemmed from a lighthearted conversation among teenagers. He emphasized that it was not as serious as the public perceived. Cannon stated, 'It’s so funny because the world thought that it was about a conversation that was something that it wasn’t. It was really about 14-year-olds talking.'

Monroe, who is now 15 years old, made her remarks about her siblings back in November 2025. In an Instagram story, she clarified, 'Clearing something up guys, I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon. I do have other half-siblings from my dad, but they are all many many years younger than me!' This clarification was particularly important, as Monroe and her twin brother, Moroccan, are the only children Cannon shares with his ex-wife, Mariah Carey. However, Cannon has a total of 10 children with several different partners, which adds to the complexity of sibling dynamics.

Understanding the Impact of Social Media

Cannon further explained that Monroe was referring to having only one sibling close to her age, which led to the confusion. 'So my daughter wanted to clear it up, and be like, ‘I only have one brother,’ like literally in her age group,' he noted. He also revealed that Monroe felt upset after her comments were misinterpreted, stating, 'The world jumped in on some teenage gossip conversation and tried to turn it into something else. And then that upset my daughter.'

In light of the situation, Cannon took the time to comfort Monroe and offer her advice regarding social media. He stressed the importance of being cautious about what one shares online, saying, 'I was like, ‘Monroe, you don’t have to explain yourself to anybody. But let this be a lesson that you got to be very careful what you say on social media. People will take something very small and blow it up into something that you don’t have control over anymore.' This incident also highlighted Cannon’s protective nature as a father, particularly as Monroe reaches the age where she may begin dating. He acknowledged a double standard in his parenting style, expressing that he is more protective of Monroe compared to his son, Moroccan, stating, 'First of all, it’s absolutely a double standard.'
