New Jersey Welcomes Team Morocco as Base Camp for FIFA World Cup 2026

Governor Sherrill Unveils Team Morocco's Training Hub in New Jersey

In an exciting development for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, New Jersey's Governor Mikie Sherrill has announced that the Moroccan national football team will establish its training base at The Pingry School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. This decision was revealed during a press event attended by Moroccan Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, and CEO of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ NYNJ Host Committee, Alex Lasry. Governor Sherrill expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "New Jersey is thrilled to welcome Morocco – and the rest of the world – to our state for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. With nearly 10,000 residents of Moroccan descent, it is indeed a special honor that Team Morocco has chosen our state as their home away from home this summer. This highlights New Jersey's significant role in the global sports arena."

The Governor further emphasized the opportunity to showcase New Jersey on an international stage, creating unforgettable memories for both residents and visitors alike. Ambassador Amrani reciprocated the sentiment, noting, "It was a distinct honor to meet Governor Sherrill today. Our discussions were fruitful regarding Morocco’s official team base in New Jersey. My heartfelt thanks go to the State of New Jersey and The Pingry School for their exceptional hospitality. Football has the unique ability to unite nations, and we look forward to strengthening our bonds through this experience."

Morocco is set to face Brazil at MetLife Stadium on June 13, marking one of the tournament's standout group-stage matches in the area. The Pingry School, with its rich history as a training site during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, continues to play a pivotal role in hosting teams on the world stage. The recently renovated Miller Bugliari ’52 World Cup Field now boasts two international-standard grass pitches and modern amenities, making it a premier facility for elite training.

In addition to Morocco, three other national teams will also establish their training camps in New Jersey, spreading the excitement of the World Cup across various communities. Announcements regarding these teams will be made soon, with facilities including Columbia Park Training Facility in Morris Township, Stockton University in Galloway, and Rutgers University in Piscataway set to welcome international teams throughout the tournament.
