New Jersey to Host Four National Soccer Teams for FIFA World Cup 2026 Training

New Jersey Welcomes FIFA World Cup Teams

In a significant announcement, New Jersey Governor Mike Sherrill revealed that four national soccer teams will utilize the state's facilities for training during the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament. Among these teams is the Moroccan national team, which has chosen the Pingry School in Basking Ridge as their temporary base camp. This co-educational private institution, catering to students from kindergarten through 12th grade, will serve as the team's training hub throughout the tournament.

During a press conference that highlighted this momentous occasion, Governor Sherrill, alongside Moroccan Ambassador to the United States Youssef Amrani and Alex Lasry, CEO of the FIFA World Cup NYNJ Host Committee, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the Moroccan team. Governor Sherrill emphasized, "New Jersey is thrilled to welcome Morocco and the rest of the world to our state for the FIFA World Cup 2026. With nearly 10,000 residents of Moroccan descent calling New Jersey home, we are particularly honored that Team Morocco has selected our state as their home away from home this summer. This decision underscores New Jersey's vital role in the global spectacle of the World Cup."

Training Facilities for an International Event

In addition to Morocco, three other national teams are set to establish their training bases in New Jersey, with arrangements to stay at local hotels conveniently located near their practice venues. The Somerset Hills Hotel has been designated as the accommodation for Team Morocco, as noted in FIFA's official list of base camps for the 64 competing national teams.

Brazil, Senegal, and Haiti are the other teams that will be utilizing New Jersey's soccer fields and hotels during their stay. The newly constructed RWJBarnabas Health Red Bulls Performance Center in Morris Township, valued at over $100 million, is set to host the Brazilian national team, which will be training at the Columbia Park Training Facility, as recognized by FIFA. The Brazilian squad will also be lodging at The Ridge in Basking Ridge.

Excitement is building as Brazil and Morocco prepare to face off in the first of eight matches scheduled at MetLife Stadium, also known as the New York New Jersey Stadium, located in East Rutherford. This highly anticipated match is slated for June 13 at 6 p.m.

Moreover, two New Jersey universities will lend their practice facilities to assist other national teams during the event. Governor Sherrill announced that Team Senegal will utilize Rutgers University in Piscataway, while Team Haiti will train at Stockton University in Galloway. Senegal's team will be accommodated at The Heldrich Hotel and Conference Center in New Brunswick, and Haiti's team will stay at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel.

Governor Sherrill concluded with a remark that encapsulates New Jersey's readiness for this global event: "New Jersey boasts the most training sites in the United States, a testament to our robust infrastructure and commitment to hosting world-class events. This truly reflects the heart of our state."
