New Direct Flight Launched Between Strasbourg and Marrakech

A new direct flight route connecting Strasbourg and Marrakech was inaugurated on Sunday, operated by the low-cost airline EasyJet. This new service links Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport with Marrakech Menara Airport, offering two flights per week, scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays.

The introduction of this route aims to enhance air connectivity between the two cities, which previously relied on indirect flights or connections through other airports. It provides a direct option for travelers, catering to both economic and tourism purposes, as well as facilitating the movements of the local community.

In this context, the General Consul of Morocco in Strasbourg, Soumia Bouhamidi, emphasized that this new flight represents a significant step towards fostering cooperation, opportunities, and mobility between the two countries. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency upon the launch of this route, Bouhamidi noted that this air service would help invigorate economic exchanges, support tourism, and strengthen ties across the Mediterranean. She highlighted the importance of this flight for the Moroccan community, one of the largest in the eastern region of France, stating that it transcends mere air travel, as it also helps bridge distances between families and facilitates movement while maintaining valuable human, cultural, and emotional connections between Strasbourg and Marrakech.

Meanwhile, the director of Strasbourg International Airport, Gilles Tilly, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the inaugural flight, which achieved a full capacity in both directions on board an Airbus A319 with 157 seats. He explained that launching this route aligns with the airport's strategy to diversify its activities by attracting a larger number of airlines. According to Tilly, this new connection meets the growing demand for travel between the two cities and will significantly ease travel for families, students, businesspeople, and tourists.

Several passengers expressed their happiness regarding the launch of this direct flight, highlighting the comfort and time savings it offers, particularly as they previously had to transit through other airports such as Basel or Baden-Baden or endure exhausting layovers.

This initiative is part of a broader dynamic to develop the air network towards Morocco, reaffirming Marrakech's status as a prominent tourist destination and international hub. Additionally, this route is included in EasyJet's expansion plan within the Moroccan market, which is considered a strong growth area, as the airline intends to operate 19 routes from seven French airports by 2026. This expansion also involves the establishment of a new operational base in Marrakech, marking the company’s first presence in Africa, aimed at supporting increased capacity and launching new routes between Europe and the Kingdom.
