Significant Growth in Business Creation in Morocco
As of the end of February 2026, the number of new businesses established in Morocco has reached an impressive total of 16,985, according to data released by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). This surge in entrepreneurship reflects a vibrant economic landscape, with businesses categorized into two main types: legal entities, which constitute 75% of the total, and individual entrepreneurs, making up the remaining 25%. Such figures highlight the growing trend of business registration in the region, showcasing the government's efforts to foster a conducive environment for new ventures.
Popular Business Structures and Regional Distribution
The data further reveals that the most favored legal structure among new businesses is the Single Member Limited Liability Company (SARL AU), accounting for 66.4% of registrations. Following closely is the Limited Liability Company (SARL), which represents 32.7% of the total. This preference for limited liability structures indicates a trend towards protecting personal assets and managing risks associated with business ownership.
Geographically, the Casablanca-Settat region leads the way, capturing 39.7% of new legal entity registrations. Other notable regions include Rabat-Salé-Kénitra at 14%, Marrakech-Safi at 12.7%, and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima at 10.4%. Collectively, these four regions account for a staggering 77% of all new legal entities registered in Morocco’s commercial registry, underscoring the concentration of entrepreneurial activity in these areas.
When examining the sectors in which these newly established entities operate, commerce emerges as the most significant sector, representing 28.4% of registrations. This is followed by construction and real estate activities at 25%, diverse services at 19%, transportation at 7.8%, and industry at 6.7%. This distribution indicates a robust and diversified economic base, essential for sustainable growth.
For individual businesses, the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region again stands out, accounting for 20.7% of individual registrations. Other regions such as Casablanca-Settat, Oriental, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, and Fès-Meknès also contribute notable percentages, showcasing a widespread interest in entrepreneurship across the country. Furthermore, during the period from January to February 2026, a total of 23,652 commercial names were registered, further illustrating the dynamic nature of Morocco’s business environment.
