Morocco's Cinema Market Surpasses Two Million Viewers in 2025

In 2025, Moroccan cinemas achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the symbolic threshold of two million viewers, with a total revenue nearing 130 million dirhams. However, a closer examination of this revenue distribution uncovers a striking concentration of the market in the hands of a very limited number of operators, raising questions about the overall health and diversity of the sector.

The annual report reveals that a total of 2,186,106 tickets were sold, generating an impressive revenue of 129.78 million dirhams. Furthermore, the number of active cinema screens has expanded to 87 across the Kingdom, marking a noteworthy growth in the cinema landscape.

Positive Growth Compared to 2024

These results reflect a continuation of the upward trend observed in the previous year. In 2024, cinemas registered approximately 2.18 million viewers and generated 127.65 million dirhams with a total of 78 active screens. The slight increase in attendance from 2.18 million to 2.19 million viewers, alongside a more pronounced revenue growth from 127.65 to 129.78 million dirhams, suggests a modest rise in the average ticket price, highlighting a shift in consumer spending patterns.

The Market Dominated by Megarama and Pathé

The exhibition sector in Morocco remains heavily dominated by two major players, who together account for a staggering 90.77% of total box office revenue. Megarama firmly leads the market with its extensive network of 48 screens, while Pathé has established itself as a strong competitor with only 12 screens, solidifying its position as the second-largest operator in the industry. The remainder of the market is shared among Ciné Atlas and various independent exhibitors, collectively contributing less than 10% to the overall revenue.

Casablanca continues to affirm its status as the undisputed capital of the national cinema market. The competition between these two industry giants is particularly fierce within the city. Pathé Californie alone attracted 519,565 viewers, generating a revenue of 43.65 million dirhams. In contrast, Megarama Casablanca drew an even larger audience with 572,353 tickets sold, but reported slightly lower earnings of 30.23 million dirhams. This disparity highlights a significant gap in the average ticket prices between the two establishments.

The Moroccan cinema industry is in a state of gradual expansion. The number of active screens rose from 70 in 2022 to 81 in 2023, slightly dipped to 78 in 2024, and then rebounded to 87 screens in 2025. To support this growth, the government allocated 15.90 million dirhams in 2025 through a funding program designed to bolster this dynamic. This funding was distributed as follows: 9.4 million dirhams for the establishment of new cinemas, four million for modernizing existing infrastructure, and 2.5 million for upgrading digital equipment.
