Morocco Sees Remarkable Growth in Ultra-Wealthy Population Amid Economic Shifts

In recent years, a North African nation has experienced a significant surge in its ultra-wealthy population, particularly those individuals whose fortunes exceed $30 million. This growth trend is highlighted in the latest "The Wealth Report 2026" published by Knight Frank, indicating an impressive increase in wealth accumulation within the country.

Morocco, specifically, has witnessed a staggering rise of over 41% in the number of individuals with fortunes surpassing $30 million since 2021, bringing the total to approximately 432 individuals in 2026, up from around 305 just five years prior. This rapid growth reflects a dynamic economic landscape where the accumulation of wealth is accelerating.

The report further predicts that this upward trend will continue in the coming years, estimating that the number of ultra-wealthy individuals in Morocco could reach around 550 by 2031. This growth is expected to be driven by expanding investments and improvements in various economic indicators related to personal wealth.

Between 2021 and 2026, the growth rate for the ultra-wealthy in Morocco has been approximately 41.6%, with forecasts suggesting an ongoing increase of about 27.3% until 2031. Such figures position Morocco as part of the emerging markets that are gradually expanding their base of high-net-worth individuals.

However, the report also notes some disparities within the Moroccan market. For instance, Marrakech has experienced a decline in the luxury real estate sector, reporting a drop of nearly 4% over the past five years according to the PIRI 100 index. This reflects divergent performances across various economic sectors despite the rise in individual wealth.

On a continental scale, the report forecasts a growth of 14.9% in the number of ultra-wealthy individuals across Africa from 2026 to 2031. Despite this growth, the continent retains only about 1% of the global ultra-wealthy population, illustrating the persistent inequalities in wealth distribution on an international level. Globally, wealth remains concentrated in specific regions, with North America leading the pack at 37% of the total ultra-wealthy population by 2026, followed by the Asia-Pacific region at 31%, and Europe accounting for more than a quarter of the global total.

This distribution highlights that while the increase in the number of wealthy individuals in emerging markets is significant, it still occurs within limited geographical boundaries compared to major global financial centers. Furthermore, it underscores the widening gap between nations in their ability to generate and accumulate wealth in the foreseeable future.
