Morocco Establishes New Jersey as a Central Hub for the 2026 World Cup and Strengthens Decentralized Cooperation with the United States

Morocco's Strategic Partnership with New Jersey for the 2026 World Cup

In a significant move, Morocco has designated New Jersey as a strategic point for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, aligning its preparations for the tournament with enhanced cooperation with the United States. This development comes as Moroccan Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, continues his tour across various American states, with notable stops in New York and New Jersey. This visit coincides with Morocco's official selection of the Pingry School in New Jersey as the training camp for the national team, known as the "Atlas Lions," during the World Cup.

The Pingry School, located in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, approximately an hour from New York City, has gained popularity in recent years as a training destination for numerous national teams and prominent clubs, particularly from Europe, owing to its advanced infrastructure. Ambassador Amrani emphasized that this strategic choice forms part of a broader vision aimed at strengthening Moroccan-American partnerships by integrating local authority cooperation, institutional coordination, and the development of sports diplomacy in preparation for this global football event.

During his visit to the anticipated training camp for the Atlas Lions, Ambassador Amrani was warmly received by New Jersey Governor, Murphy. The ambassador conducted a site visit to the facility and engaged in extensive discussions regarding the prospects of collaboration between Morocco and this East Coast state in the U.S. This meeting also included the Director of the World Cup Organizing Committee for New York and New Jersey, Alex Lazzari.

The ambassador highlighted that this meeting carries significant implications, reflecting a high level of preparedness surrounding the national team's participation in a competitive environment. The collaboration between Morocco and New Jersey is not only a testament to the growing ties between the two regions but also an opportunity for cultural exchange and mutual development in the realm of sports. As the World Cup approaches, Morocco's strategic planning and partnerships are set to enhance its presence and performance on the global stage, ensuring that the Atlas Lions are well-prepared for their moment in the spotlight.
