Significant Improvements in Airport Processing Times Across Morocco
In the first half of 2026, Moroccan airports have made remarkable strides in enhancing their efficiency, achieving a significant reduction in processing times at border control checkpoints. Reports indicate that average wait times have decreased by as much as 70% in some of the country’s busiest airports, including Casablanca and Marrakech. The average duration for departing passengers at these airports now stands at just 3.6 minutes, marking a notable improvement that aligns with the objectives outlined in the "Aeroports 2030" strategy. This success can be attributed to the exceptional efforts of the National Security Directorate and the Ministry of Interior, which have worked collaboratively to streamline passenger processing while managing the increasing volume of air traffic.
Casablanca and Marrakech Lead the Way
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, recognized as the primary airport and major regional hub, demonstrates this positive trend. Here, travelers are experiencing an average processing time of only 5.4 minutes upon arrival, a reduction from nearly 12 minutes the previous year, reflecting an impressive 54% improvement. Departures have seen an even more dramatic decrease, with wait times now averaging just 2.25 minutes compared to approximately 7.5 minutes during the same period in 2025, representing a remarkable 70% reduction.
Similarly, Marrakech-Menara Airport, the second busiest airport in Morocco and a key entry point for tourists, has recorded average processing times of 6.86 minutes for arrivals, down 16%, and 5.09 minutes for departures, a decrease of 22.5%. These figures underscore the airport’s ability to manage increased passenger loads while maintaining efficient service.
Additional airports within the network have also reported improvements; for instance, Tanger's arrival processing time has been reduced to 11.93 minutes, a 52% enhancement. Fès has achieved an impressive departure time of just 1.53 minutes, positioning it among the best in the network, while Agadir continues to maintain an average arrival time of under 10 minutes. These advancements reflect a collective effort from all stakeholders involved in airport operations, including the close cooperation between the National Security Directorate and the Ministry of Interior.
