Massive Protests Across the Globe in Support of Palestine and Against Militarization

Mass Mobilization in Rabat for Palestinian Rights

On Sunday, thousands of Moroccans gathered in the capital city of Rabat to express their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause while protesting against a controversial new Israeli law permitting the execution of Palestinians convicted of attacks. An estimated 5,000 demonstrators marched along Mohammed V Avenue, proudly waving both Palestinian and Moroccan flags. The demonstration was organized by the National Action Group for Palestine, which includes supporters of the Justice and Development Party alongside leftist activists. The crowd chanted slogans such as "No to the Death Penalty" and "No to Occupation and Zionism," while vehemently criticizing Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip. This gathering reflects a broader sentiment in the region, showcasing solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for rights and justice.

Global Response Against Housing Crisis and Militarization

In a separate but equally significant demonstration, thousands took to the streets of London on Saturday to participate in a nationwide housing protest organized by tenant unions, trade unions, and activist groups. Protestors demanded rent controls and a large-scale program for the construction of social housing. The march through central London featured speeches from prominent figures, including former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and MP Zarah Sultana. A spokesperson from the London Renters Union highlighted the dire state of housing, stating, "Soaring rents are pushing us into poverty and out of our neighborhoods, while large corporations build luxury apartments that we cannot afford. The government under Keir Starmer exacerbates the housing crisis by cozying up to private developers and selling out our communities." This event indicates a growing awareness and mobilization around housing insecurity, reflecting widespread discontent with current government policies.

In Tokyo, approximately 36,000 individuals gathered outside the parliament building on Sunday to advocate for the preservation of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution, which renounces war, and to oppose the militarization policies of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. This marked the second major protest against constitutional amendments since April 8, when around 30,000 people had gathered nearby. Protestors displayed placards stating "No to War," "Do Not Undermine Article 9," and "Takaichi, Resign," demanding the protection of Japan’s pacifist constitution amid rising military tensions.

In the Philippines, the human rights organization KARAPATAN condemned the planned establishment of a U.S. ammunition factory, which is expected to load, assemble, and package 30-millimeter ammunition. The construction of this factory implicates the Marcos Jr. government in the criminal assaults of the U.S. regime under Donald Trump against nations showcasing independence from U.S. imperialism. Furthermore, it risks entangling the Philippines in military conflicts that do not pertain to its interests, potentially making it a target for adversaries of the U.S. KARAPATAN asserted that there is no justification for the Filipino populace to serve as cannon fodder for potential U.S. imperialist aggression in the Pacific. The escalating violence against communities, aimed at so-called "insurgents" and "terrorists," often results in the tragic loss of civilian lives.
