Significant Drug Trafficking Operations Uncovered
In a decisive operation carried out this week, the national police successfully dismantled the criminal framework of two organized networks involved in drug trafficking in western Algeria. Authorities seized an impressive total of 136 kilograms of processed cannabis, sourced from Morocco, and apprehended four individuals linked to these illicit activities, according to a statement released by police officials on Thursday.
The first operation was executed by the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Béchar, which thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial shipment of cannabis amounting to 79.25 kilograms. This operation resulted in the arrest of three members of the criminal network and the recovery of a significant sum of 36.5 million Algerian dinars, derived from their illegal operations. Meanwhile, the second operation, conducted by the mobile judicial police in the Sidi Bel Abbès province, led to the confiscation of 57 kilograms of processed cannabis and the disruption of the organized network's activities. One of the operatives was arrested during this operation, and a vehicle used for transporting these narcotics was also seized.
The suspects have been presented sequentially to the public prosecutor at the courts of Béchar and Sidi Bel Abbès, where further legal proceedings are expected to take place, reinforcing the authorities' commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety.
