Leoni Expands Operations with New Industrial Facility
Leoni, a global provider of energy management and data solutions specifically designed for the automotive sector, has officially commenced construction on its newest industrial unit located in Bouskoura. This significant investment is projected to create nearly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, thereby bolstering the Group's activities in support of major global automobile manufacturers. Leoni Wiring Systems, recognized as one of the top five global players in automotive wiring systems, operates 40 industrial units across 15 countries. Having established its presence in Morocco since 1971, Leoni currently employs approximately 20,000 individuals across 11 production facilities situated in Bouskoura, Berrechid, Bouznika, Agadir, and Casablanca. With the addition of this new site, the Group will expand its industrial footprint to 12 units within the Kingdom, further solidifying its role as a key player in Morocco's automotive industry.
Mr. Ryad Mezzour emphasized the importance of this new industrial unit as a critical component of the Kingdom's strategy to enhance local integration rates and strengthen its positioning within global value chains. He noted, "The momentum of our automotive industry, which is now among the most competitive worldwide, continues to attract investments from international sector leaders. Leoni's decision to establish a 12th factory in Morocco perfectly illustrates this growth and reflects the renewed confidence of global automotive leaders in Morocco's industrial vision and its capacity to sustainably support the growth and transformations of the global automotive industry."
Strategic Investment in Morocco's Industrial Future
This initiative is part of a larger investment agreement signed in 2023 between Leoni and the Moroccan government, which includes an industrial development program exceeding 932 million dirhams aimed at promoting the Group's growth while reinforcing its long-term presence in Morocco. The positive trajectory of Leoni's expansion has already been evidenced by the inauguration of a new production site in Agadir in January 2025—the first of its kind in the region's automotive sector. This cutting-edge facility, which represents an investment of 230 million dirhams and spans 19,000 square meters, is projected to create over 3,000 direct jobs in the near future.
This investment is emblematic of the remarkable dynamics currently characterizing the Moroccan automotive industry, which has become the Kingdom's leading export sector and one of the most efficient and competitive industrial ecosystems globally. Thanks to its robust infrastructure, qualified human capital, and competitive industrial environment, Morocco has established itself as a prime platform for leading international automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Leoni's continued development within Morocco underscores the confidence that global sector leaders have in the country's advantages and its ability to facilitate transformations within the automotive industry.
Hicham Hannioui, Country Manager of Leoni Wiring Systems Morocco, stated, "LEONI Morocco has become a solid and reliable pillar of the Kingdom's automotive industry. Our ongoing growth reflects not only the strategic importance of Morocco to the Leoni Group but also our company's commitment and the trust we place in the country’s economic environment. By investing in talent, innovation, and operational excellence, we are further enhancing the competitiveness of the Moroccan automotive sector and collaborating with our clients and partners to build sustainable industrial success."
Developed over nearly 35,000 square meters, this new industrial site has been designed according to the Group's most advanced standards for industrial performance, digitalization, and operational excellence. It will incorporate next-generation production capabilities, as well as a training center and an Innovation and Research and Development Center dedicated to automotive wiring technologies. This platform will play a pivotal role in Leoni’s industrial evolution in Morocco by 2027, enhancing operational flexibility and the capacity to meet the needs of its international clients.
Andreas Krifka, Chief Finance Officer of the Leoni Group, remarked, "Morocco plays an essential role in Leoni's global industrial network and is a significant pillar of our long-term growth strategy. With this new industrial unit, which will become Leoni's 12th production site in Morocco, we continue to invest in industrial capacities, innovation, and sustainability while further strengthening our proximity to international automobile manufacturers. Additionally, our partnership with Luxshare creates an extra positive dynamic and bolsters our capacity to pursue growth in this strategic market. This project illustrates our commitment to building resilient operations and creating lasting value for our clients, employees, and the region."
Having been present in Morocco for over 55 years, Leoni has established an industrial base that enables the Group to produce automotive wiring systems for over 14 countries. The Group plays a crucial role in integrating Morocco into the global automotive industry's value chains. Anis Kammoun, Chief Operations Officer of Leoni Wiring Systems, emphasized that this new industrial unit represents a significant milestone in the development of Leoni's industrial footprint in North Africa and highlights Morocco's strategic role. Developed based on our roadmap for digitalization and automation, this site reflects our commitment to operational excellence and our ability to seize growth opportunities in the automotive industry, both regionally and internationally. This industrial unit is also a key element in our development roadmap and a strong signal of our confidence in the future of this market.
With the establishment of this new site in Bouskoura, Leoni is actively implementing its industrial roadmap in Morocco and reaffirming its confidence in the Kingdom's potential. This investment, realized through close collaboration with government and local authorities, enhances the Group's ability to support the growth of its international clients while also contributing to the development of an increasingly competitive, innovative, and value-creating Moroccan automotive ecosystem.
