The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has officially inaugurated 27 primary healthcare facilities in the regions of Fes-Meknes and Beni Mellal-Khenifra on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. This significant event marks the completion of their rehabilitation and equipping, coinciding with the celebration of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day.
According to a statement from the ministry, the activation of these healthcare establishments aligns with the high royal directives aimed at reforming and upgrading the national healthcare system, enhancing healthcare services, and bringing medical assistance closer to the citizens. This initiative is part of a broader national program to upgrade 1,600 primary healthcare institutions, with 500 of these slated for completion in 2026, supporting the overarching goal of universal social protection and improving the quality of basic healthcare services.
The health service offerings in the Fes-Meknes region have been notably strengthened with the operationalization of 25 primary healthcare facilities. In Fes province, the urban healthcare center 'Al-Masla' has opened its doors, while Meknes province has welcomed two new urban healthcare centers, 'Al-Merjan' and 'Um Al-Rabi,' enhancing local health services. Additionally, the rural clinic 'Azra' is now providing services to the targeted population in the Sefrou province.
In the province of Taounate, 12 healthcare facilities have commenced operations, including the rural health center level 2 'Wirtzag,' two level 2 urban health centers 'Tissa' and 'Taher Souk,' and several level 1 rural health centers such as 'Al-Ratba' and 'Oudka.' The rural health centers 'Imkanasa' and 'Ain Madiouna' have also opened, alongside the rural clinics 'Wad Lwan,' 'Lansar,' 'Daraza,' and 'Dar Abkhiti,' as well as the level 1 rural health center 'Kaysan.'
Furthermore, the health services in the Boulemane and Hajeb provinces have expanded with the addition of five new primary healthcare facilities. Boulemane province now has two level 1 rural health centers, 'Oulad Malouk' and 'Al-Arjan,' while Hajeb province has benefited from the opening of two level 1 rural healthcare centers, 'Iqdar' and 'Ait Bourzouine,' along with the rural clinic 'Boulwzan.'
In Taza province, four new primary healthcare centers have been established, including two level 1 rural health centers, 'Kaldaman' and 'Bord,' alongside a level 2 rural health center 'Kaf Al-Ghar,' and the rural clinic 'Al-Tayfa.'
In the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, two rural clinics, 'Sidi Mubarak' and 'Al-Awinat,' have started providing services to local residents in Khenifra province.
The objective of these healthcare centers, which are part of a new generation of primary healthcare establishments, is to enhance regional health service offerings and bring healthcare services closer to a targeted population exceeding 317,574 individuals. This initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services, improve access to these services, and enhance their quality, as well as improve reception conditions and guidance for patients.
In conclusion, the ministry has equipped these healthcare facilities with high-quality biomedical equipment and has mobilized a skilled workforce of 125 healthcare professionals who will provide medical and nursing services. This includes a diverse range of treatments, particularly general medical examinations, nursing care, chronic disease management (especially diabetes and hypertension), maternal and child health, school health, health awareness and education, as well as epidemiological surveillance and mobile health services.
