Fes Initiates Plans for Bus Rapid Transit System
The city of Fes is set to undergo a significant transformation in its public transportation system with the introduction of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Fes Amenagement, the urban development company, has officially commenced preliminary studies for the first high-service bus line that will link Fes-Sais Airport to Bab al-Futuh, with an investment exceeding 1 billion Moroccan Dirhams.
According to field data, the financial allocation for these initial studies stands at 11.4 million Moroccan Dirhams. This initiative aims to enhance urban transportation networks and alleviate isolation in vital areas that connect the airport with the city's tourist and industrial hubs. The proposed Line 1 will traverse a strategic route connecting the airport to the Ain Nqbi industrial area in the Jinan al-Ward district, while also passing through major facilities such as the sports complex and the university hospital center, eventually reaching the Lafayat neighborhood and the urban center at Bab al-Futuh.
This ambitious project is anticipated to revolutionize daily commuting for residents of the scientific capital of Morocco. The supervising authority has set May 27 as the date for the opening of bids related to the preliminary design summary. Furthermore, this developmental project is part of a broader vision to enhance infrastructure in the Fes-Meknes region, which seeks to modernize the public transport fleet and reduce travel times between suburban areas and the city center, addressing the urban and economic challenges faced by the region.
