Exploring Morocco: Mohamed Hamida's Literary Journey Unveiled

Mohamed Hamida's Book Signing at the Rabat International Book Fair

The renowned Egyptian journalist and poet, Mohamed Hamida, recently held a book signing event for his latest works, "Cairo – Marrakech" and the poetry collection "Dictionary of Heaven" at the Rabat International Book Fair. This event garnered significant attention, drawing a large audience of Moroccan intellectuals, artists, and writers, who gathered to celebrate the literary contributions of Hamida.

A Journey Through Morocco

"Cairo – Marrakech" invites readers on an extraordinary journalistic adventure through Morocco, detailing Hamida's experiences during his visit to Marrakech and the breathtaking landscapes and historical landmarks that surround it. The book captures his impressions of the rich Moroccan culture, offering a personal perspective that enhances the reader's understanding of this vibrant country. Beginning from his arrival in the famed red city of Marrakech, Hamida masterfully narrates his journey through the narrow alleyways and traditional markets that echo the essence of authentic Moroccan history. Furthermore, the narrative expands beyond Marrakech, taking readers on a scenic exploration of the Atlas Mountains and its surroundings, showcasing stunning visuals of enchanting mountain landscapes that blend snow-capped peaks with lush oases and deep valleys.

More than just a travelogue, "Cairo – Marrakech" serves as a cultural bridge between Egypt and Morocco, reflecting the similarities and differences between the two cultures while highlighting the deep historical and civilizational connections that bind them. Hamida expresses his admiration for the unique Moroccan character, which harmoniously combines tradition and modernity, making Morocco an inspiring destination for every visitor.

The 31st edition of the Rabat International Book Fair is currently underway and will continue until May 10, under the theme "Books are Journeys... and Journeys are Books." This year's fair showcases the growing cultural presence of the event on both Arab and international levels. The organization of this edition coincides with UNESCO's designation of Rabat as the World Book Capital for 2026, adding a special symbolic dimension to this year's activities.

This year, France is the guest of honor at the fair, continuing the cultural exchange that began when Morocco was the guest of honor at the Paris Book Festival last year. Additionally, the fair will commemorate the centenary of the birth of Moroccan writer Idriss Chraibi, one of the prominent figures in literature written in French.

The fair's management has chosen the famous Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta to be the focal figure of this edition, dedicating the "Ibn Battuta Pavilion" to highlight travel literature, hosting specialized seminars, and displaying rare manuscripts and documents, as well as maps documenting his journeys from Morocco to China.
