This Saturday, May 9, marks a pivotal moment in the tenth edition of the South American Women’s U-17 Championship, currently taking place in Paraguay. Not only will the champion be crowned, but the tournament will also determine which four national teams will represent South America at the U-17 World Cup scheduled to be held in Morocco. The World Cup is set to take place from October 17 to November 8.
As it stands, Argentina and Brazil have already secured their places in the prestigious global tournament, as they prepare to face each other in the grand final of the Conmebol championship. However, the battle is far from over for four other teams who will engage in playoff matches to vie for the last two slots available for the World Cup.
Among those teams fighting for their last chance to qualify are Venezuela and Colombia, with one of these teams set to say goodbye to their World Cup dreams. The Colombian team, known as the 'Tricolor' and coached by Carlos Paniagua, managed to reach the playoffs after finishing third in Group A during the group stage. Meanwhile, Venezuela, referred to as the 'Vinotinto', has a second chance to qualify after narrowly losing to Argentina in the semifinals.
Colombia is aiming to qualify for its eighth World Cup, while Venezuela seeks to participate for the fourth time in this category. The match between Venezuela and Colombia is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at 12:00 PM (Colombian time) at the Ameliano Stadium in Villeta, Asunción, Paraguay.
Additionally, Chile and Ecuador will compete for the final World Cup spot at 5:00 PM local time, while the championship final between Argentina and Brazil will kick off at 7:30 PM at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium.
