Streamlining Procedures and Strengthening Social Protection for Traders
During the inaugural session of a significant forum organized under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, participants emphasized the necessity of simplifying administrative processes and enhancing social protection for traders. These steps are crucial for ensuring their effective integration into the national economic dynamics. The President of the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, Hussein Alioui, highlighted that the trade sector is a fundamental pillar of the national economy, contributing approximately 16 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and providing around one and a half million job opportunities, which accounts for 15 percent of the total workforce.
Alioui noted that the sector is undergoing rapid transformations due to the expansion of large commercial centers and the evolution of e-commerce, amidst an increasing openness to digitization and innovation. He called for the enhancement of digital financing and the simplification of its mechanisms, enabling traders to receive training and support. Additionally, he advocated for the development of a legal framework that ensures a balance between the protection of traders' rights and consumer rights, as well as the improvement of territorial governance and the organization of commercial spaces. Importantly, he stressed the need for investment in human resources and social protection.
Digital Transformation and Social Security for Traders
Shkip Laliij, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, underscored that the success of the initiative to develop the trade sector hinges on the simplification of administrative procedures and the modernization of the legal framework governing trade activities. This modernization is essential for facilitating traders' access to various services and enhancing operational efficiency. In a speech delivered on his behalf, Laliij highlighted the importance of accompanying the digital transformation by providing practical solutions that assist professionals in adapting to technological advancements.
Furthermore, Nabil Noury, representing the professional coordination of traders, pointed out that one of the most significant achievements in recent years has been the widespread implementation of social protection for a broad segment of traders. This has contributed to improving their social conditions and enhancing stability within the sector. Noury addressed various challenges faced by professionals, particularly concerning the multiplicity of administrative procedures and the complexity of some processes, urging for further simplification and attentiveness to the concerns of small and medium-sized traders.
This forum, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, along with professional trader associations, is themed "Trade in Morocco 2030." It serves as a prominent national platform to spotlight the transformations occurring in the trade sector and to envision its development prospects. Moreover, it fosters an environment for exchanging experiences and enhancing dialogue among various economic and institutional stakeholders.
