Electoral Agreement Between 'The Candle' and 'The Message'

New Political Alliance for Upcoming Elections

A reliable source has disclosed to Hespress that negotiations conducted by the technical committee tasked by the political bureaus of both the Democratic Left Federation and the Unified Socialist Party have led to a preliminary agreement. This agreement allows for a joint candidacy in the upcoming legislative elections for the ‘Anfa’ district in Casablanca, where ‘The Candle’ party will nominate a candidate. In exchange, ‘The Message’ party will receive representation in the coalition at the level of the Casablanca-Settat region.

The source further clarified that a preliminary agreement was signed last Sunday, with an anticipated meeting for the secretaries-general of both parties, along with their political offices, scheduled for the end of this week. This meeting is set to finalize the proposals that have reached an agreement level exceeding 90 percent. Additionally, a further joint meeting is expected to refine some details regarding the shared electoral symbol. It is anticipated that a national council will convene at the beginning of May in a joint session between the two parties to make a definitive decision regarding this agreement.

Strategic Distribution of Electoral Districts

In related news, a source indicated that the contentious ‘Mouhit’ district, often referred to as the ‘death district’, along with the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Marrakech-Safi, has been allocated to candidates from the Democratic Left Federation. Meanwhile, the Unified Socialist Party has secured regions including Fez-Meknes and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima. It was noted that the tensions accompanying the negotiations were alleviated through concessions primarily focused on the distribution of regions and electoral districts.

Despite most major regions being assigned to the federation, the Unified Socialist Party defended its claim to the majority of electoral districts, including Agadir, while also conceding the southern district of Fez, which was originally part of its allocation, to facilitate consensus and resolve issues related to the Anfa district. This was particularly pertinent given the presence of prominent figures from the Unified Socialist Party, such as parliamentarian Nabila Mounib and advisor Abdullah Aba Akeel.

As the leader Fatima Tamani, a parliamentary candidate for ‘The Message’, steps forward representing the federation in the Anfa district, the source indicated that the initial agreements will necessitate the Unified Socialist Party to finalize its candidate for this district following the near-final agreement awaiting the endorsement from the general secretariats of both parties. This agreement is part of a broader effort to ensure extensive political and electoral coordination among left-wing entities, thereby enhancing their presence in the forthcoming electoral challenges.
