Cuban Ambassador's Workshop Inspires Young Minds in Morocco
Liurka Rodríguez Barrios, the head of the diplomatic mission from the Cuban Embassy in Morocco, recently conducted an engaging workshop for schoolchildren in Rabat who attended the Latin American space at the International Salon of Publishing and Book. The primary aim of this workshop was to introduce young students to iconic characters from the beloved children's work "La Edad de oro," written in 1889 by José Martí, the National Hero of Cuba. This literary piece has been instrumental in shaping the values of many generations, and its relevance continues to resonate today.
During the workshop, children aged between eight and twelve from various schools learned about the inspirations behind José Martí's creation of characters such as Pilar, Bebé, Leonor, and Meñique. These characters embody universal values such as modesty, sensitivity, cleverness, kindness, and honesty, which remain pertinent in contemporary society. The interactive session fostered a delightful exchange where students expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction in learning about Cuba, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, and about a Cuban writer and patriot who devoted part of his life to writing for children.
In an interview with Radio Nacional de Marruecos, the Cuban diplomat emphasized the significance of the Salon International de l’Edition et du Livre (SIEL) as a cultural and literary bridge between Morocco and Latin America. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present renowned texts from Cuban narrative and essays, highlighting the importance of participating in this event, especially in a year when Rabat has been declared the UNESCO World Book Capital. This acknowledgment of Rabat's literary status further underlines the importance of cultural exchanges and the promotion of literature across borders.
