Crackdown on Study Abroad Fraud in Marrakech and Other Local Developments

Police Action Against Fraud in Study Abroad Schemes

The Friday edition of "Al-Masaa" has reported that the judicial police in Marrakech have arrested an individual suspected of being involved in a fraudulent scheme targeting those aspiring to pursue their studies abroad. This operation was prompted by numerous complaints from victims, who accused the suspect of perpetrating financial deceit under the pretense of securing study placements and facilitating visa applications for foreign countries.

In a related story, the Appeals Court in Marrakech has ruled on a case concerning the illegal practice of dentistry in Qalaat Seraghna, where the main defendant was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended. This ruling, issued on April 13, replaces a previous acquittal. The court found the defendant guilty of violating Law No. 05-07, which regulates the profession, emphasizing that possession of precise medical equipment intended for dental surgery by an unlicensed individual is sufficient evidence for conviction. Consequently, the court also granted financial compensation to the affected parties.

Healthcare Developments and Urban Challenges

Meanwhile, "Al-Ahdath Al-Maghribiya" reported that the administration of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda has confirmed that all patients presenting a prescription from their doctors will receive the necessary medications from the hospital without discrimination or delay. This initiative is part of a continuous partnership with the Ministry of Health and various institutional partners, aiming to ensure a steady supply of essential medical supplies.

In another significant development, the governor of the Casablanca-Settat region, Mohamed Mheidia, has greenlit one of the largest developmental projects in the economic capital in recent years. This initiative aims to construct a world-class sports complex and a large multi-specialty hospital on a vast plot of land that includes the Tizimi Stadium and the second-hand auto parts market near the Salmia district. This project is expected to revitalize the area, which currently features several facilities, including the famous Tizimi Stadium and a rugby field, but faces challenges due to the presence of the bustling auto parts market.

In the coastal city of Essaouira, residents, along with various traders and professionals, are confronting an escalating environmental and economic challenge posed by tons of sand encroaching on streets and alleys, causing daily hardships for citizens in terms of mobility and access to public services and shops. Four professional associations, including the Association of Traders on Zarqtouni Street, have urgently called upon the local authorities for immediate and effective intervention to mitigate the damage caused by sand drift, which threatens commercial activity and burdens professionals in critical economic zones.

In a separate note, "Bayane Al-Yawm" has highlighted concerns among the residents of Nador regarding the future of the Hassani Regional Hospital, amidst discussions about potential closure or reduction of its services coinciding with the upcoming opening of a new regional hospital in Selouan next May. This discussion raises fears about creating a healthcare void in the city, particularly regarding urgent care services that many citizens rely on for immediate medical interventions.
