Community Rallying for the Reinstatement of Clermont-Ferrand to Marrakech Flights

Nearly 800 Signatures Collected for Direct Flight Petition

A grassroots movement has emerged in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where nearly 800 residents have signed a petition advocating for the reinstatement of direct flights between Clermont-Ferrand and Marrakech, Morocco. The initiative, spearheaded by Nadine Aitouzgoun, highlights the significant challenges faced by the local community due to the discontinuation of this crucial air service. Following the initial launch of the petition, it garnered more than 200 signatures within just 24 hours, demonstrating a clear demand for the resumption of flights that were once well-utilized by travelers.

The direct flight service was inaugurated in 2017, providing a vital link between Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport and Marrakech. However, this service was suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the cancellation of several routes, including those to Morocco. The situation worsened when Ryanair ceased operations on this route in March 2026, resulting in the elimination of the remaining direct flights to Fez. Residents have expressed their frustrations over the increased travel difficulties that have arisen in the absence of these flights, with many emphasizing that the planes had consistently operated at full capacity.

Aitouzgoun's motivation for launching the petition stems from her personal connections to Morocco, as her in-laws reside there. She insists that the demand for a direct flight service is palpable and essential for the community, stating, "We request that this route be reconsidered to meet the needs of the population." The petition not only seeks to restore convenience for travelers but also aims to facilitate easier connections for families and friends separated by the distance created by the lack of direct flights.
