Marking a Milestone in U.S.-Morocco Relations
Tangier, Morocco, April 15, 2026 – In a significant event commemorating the Freedom250 initiative, which celebrates 250 years of American independence, the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) marked its 15-year partnership with Morocco through a roundtable discussion held at the American Legation in Tangier, the oldest American diplomatic building in the world. This gathering brought together key representatives from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), the Ministry of Justice, the International Association of Women Judges, alongside officials from INL Morocco.
Strengthening Security and Judicial Reform
Since the inception of their collaboration in 2011, INL and Morocco have worked hand in hand to enhance public safety and security for both American and Moroccan citizens within their borders. A notable achievement in this partnership was the DGSN's attainment of full international accreditation for its National Scientific Police Laboratory in 2025, marking a historic first for Africa. This accreditation underscores the commitment of both nations to bolster law enforcement capabilities and improve justice systems. The ongoing collaboration highlights the importance of shared values in promoting safety and justice, which are vital for the prosperity of both countries.
