According to the student office, although construction of this unit was completed months ago, it has yet to commence operations, despite being part of the commitments made when a sixth year was introduced to the dentistry program back in 2019. Furthermore, students assert that they frequently encounter shortages of basic materials necessary for clinical practice, prompting them to call for a consistent supply of dental equipment and consumables to ensure that their training meets recognized professional and scientific standards.
The student body claims that their appeals for action have been largely ignored by the authorities, despite previous statements made in March and a significant student march that took place in April. Should there be no advancement in resolving these issues before the new academic year starts, students are prepared to initiate various forms of protest, including a complete boycott of hospital placements. The student office has cautioned that such a boycott would have repercussions beyond the university setting, as dental students contribute to the provision of care at the university hospital; therefore, any disruption in their clinical training could adversely impact patient services.
