Calls for Regulation of Nutrition Specialists in Morocco to Safeguard Public Health

Urgent Need for Regulation in Nutrition Profession

On May 7, 2026, parliamentary representative Mohammed Wadhmin directed a written inquiry to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, emphasizing the necessity of organizing and regulating the profession of nutrition and dietetics in Morocco. This call comes in light of what he describes as a concerning rise in unprofessional practices that jeopardize the health of citizens, particularly through digital platforms and social media.

Wadhmin underlined the increasing significance of the nutrition and dietetics profession, owing to its crucial role in preventing various chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Furthermore, he noted that the profession contributes significantly to enhancing living conditions and public health across diverse demographics.

The parliamentary representative pointed out that the growing demand for nutrition and diet services is being met with a troubling proliferation of individuals practicing this profession without any scientific training or professional qualifications. These services are often offered through private establishments or online platforms, where dietary programs and consultations are provided that frequently lack sound scientific foundations. Such practices pose a direct risk to the health of the public.

Moreover, Wadhmin highlighted that this situation reflects the absence of a clear legal and regulatory framework governing the profession. There is a pressing need to define the requirements for entry and practice, in addition to regulating the duties of nutrition specialists and ensuring that clients are protected from any malpractice or unprofessional conduct.

In this regard, the parliamentary representative urged the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to disclose the measures and actions it plans to implement to organize and regulate the profession of nutrition and dietetics. This regulation is essential to safeguard citizens from the dangers associated with unregulated nutritional consultations, particularly those offered through digital channels.
