Aural Centers Auditivos: Bridging Sports and Social Impact
Aural Centros Auditivos has made a significant return to the Moroccan desert, driven by two primary goals: to tackle one of the most challenging mountain biking events and to enhance auditory health in underprivileged communities. This year, the company is participating in the Skoda Titan Desert Morocco 2026, taking place from April 26 to May 1, with a team of 37 riders. They are also launching the third edition of their philanthropic initiative, 'Return to Hear to Return to Live', which is part of the Titan Life project by RPM Sports and is exclusively promoted by Aural this year.
The event commenced on April 26 in Boumalne Dades, bringing together over 500 participants who will cover nearly 600 kilometers and ascend more than 6,000 meters over six stages, culminating at the final destination in Maadid on May 1. Throughout this demanding journey, Aural’s team is intertwining sports with direct community interventions through their mobile health truck. This initiative offers free hearing examinations, basic treatments, and donations of hearing aids to various local populations along the race route. The overarching aim is to improve the quality of life for local residents, promote their autonomy and social inclusion, and raise awareness about the importance of addressing hearing loss without stigma.
Transformative Stories: Restoring Hearing and Hope
Among the first cases treated this year is that of Adam, a 15-year-old boy who lost his hearing at the age of five after suffering a cardiac arrest that left him without a pulse for twenty minutes during surgery. Following his resuscitation, he became deaf, but after a visit to Aural's mobile clinic, he received a powerful hearing aid that restored his ability to hear. Over its three editions, Aural Centros Auditivos has provided support to over 600 individuals with hearing loss and has donated more than 200 hearing aids. This year's team in Morocco consists of Aural audioprosthetists Sara Varela and Alfonso Alonso, along with ENT specialist Francisca Mallmann from the IOGI Institute, who are responsible for conducting assessments and treatments in the towns along the Titan route.
Juan Ignacio Martínez, the CEO of Aural Centros Auditivos, expressed the profound impact of their work, stating, "Witnessing a person hear the voice of a loved one or the sounds of their environment after years of silence is a transformative experience for all of us. This initiative reminds us that with enthusiasm, commitment, and effort, it is not only possible to overcome a sporting challenge but also to change many lives for the better." The presence of Aural at the Titan Desert also carries a significant awareness dimension. The team, led by Martínez and former Movistar Team cyclist Luis Pasamontes, who serves as a brand ambassador, includes 35 diverse riders from various backgrounds and nationalities. They all share a powerful message: hearing loss should not limit anyone.
The team includes athletes with hearing impairments or personal connections to hearing health issues. Participants such as Adrià Alonso, who has bilateral hearing loss and is returning for his second Titan with Aural; Olympic deaf athlete Juan Manuel González Valente; Jon Altube, a father of a child with hearing loss; Roc Pagès, the youngest member of the group born with hearing issues and making his debut; and Asensio Romero, a patient of Aural dealing with tinnitus, all aim to convey a clear message to those experiencing hearing difficulties: do not delay seeking professional help and refuse to let hearing loss dictate your personal, social, or athletic life.
Martínez added, "We participate with a diverse team to highlight that hearing loss should not restrict anyone. Sports, particularly an event like the Titan Desert, serves as an extraordinary platform to break down stigmas and normalize the pursuit of professional help." One notable member of the team is Luis Pasamontes, who will achieve Titan Legend status in this edition, a title reserved for participants who have completed at least 3,500 kilometers in the Titan World Series events organized by RPM Sports.
"The Titan Desert is a unique experience that pushes you to your limits in every sense. Becoming a Titan Legend with the Aural Centros Auditivos team holds special value because you are part of a purposeful project where sports also serve to help others," Pasamontes remarked.
In addition to their mobile health truck, Aural will make a charitable contribution for each team member who completes the Skoda Titan Desert, which will be allocated annually to various charitable projects within the company's Corporate Social Responsibility framework.
