André Azoulay Highlights Morocco's Atlantic Vision as a Pillar of Regional Authority

André Azoulay, the Advisor to King Mohammed VI and the Founding President of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, emphasized Morocco's strategic position within the Atlantic and African context during his address in Tangier on Saturday. Speaking at the commencement of the international symposium titled "The African Atlantic Space: What Geopolitical Reinterpretation? A Multidimensional Approach," Azoulay articulated that Morocco's vision is not merely an aspiration but a critical marker of its centrality and authority in the region.

In his remarks, Azoulay urged a thorough examination of Morocco's diplomatic history and a strategic analysis of its leadership role, particularly during the 19th century, to appreciate the depth of the Atlantic and African vision championed by King Mohammed VI. He stated that this vision has been embraced by the global community, positioning Morocco as a key player on the geopolitical stage.

Azoulay underscored that Morocco is well-equipped to leverage its Atlantic strategy as a catalyst for development and regional collaboration. He called for the persistence of this momentum, which reinforces Morocco's status as a regional reference point committed to a shared and sustainable future. Furthermore, he pointed out that the Royal Atlantic Initiative exemplifies the King's strategic foresight, aiming to enhance Morocco's influence within the African Atlantic domain. This initiative is built on robust historical, geographical, and civilizational foundations, promoting an ambitious vision for Africa founded on principles of equality, dignity, and mutual respect.

He also highlighted the importance of the partnership between Tetouan and Essaouira, particularly through the establishment of the Tetouan-Essaouira University of Cultural and Heritage Sciences. This project seeks to utilize cultural engagement as a means of urban development, aligning with Morocco's commitment to diversity, pluralism, and social modernity. Additionally, Azoulay referenced the “Blue University” initiative in Essaouira, which aligns seamlessly with Morocco's Atlantic vision. He noted that the sustainable management of ocean resources is crucial for both ecological integrity and food security, as well as for enhancing Morocco's regional stature. He stressed the importance of adopting a scientific and structured approach to harness these resources effectively, supporting Morocco's broader ambitions in this area.

This symposium, organized by the Center for Studies and Research on Hebrew Culture and Law in Morocco, in collaboration with Maison Maroc for Peace and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, aims to stimulate a comprehensive discourse on the geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics within maritime spaces, with a specific emphasis on the African Atlantic region.
