Agadir to Host the Global Francophonie Scientific Week in October

Agadir Set to Welcome Global Francophonie Scientific Week

Agadir is gearing up to host an important academic event, the 6th edition of the Global Francophonie Scientific Week, scheduled for October 13-15, 2026. This significant gathering, co-organized by Ibnou Zohr University and the Agency of Francophone Universities, is held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This year's edition not only highlights the institutional importance of the event but also marks a political recognition of Agadir and Morocco's growing role in international scientific cooperation.

A Gathering of Influential Stakeholders

The event will bring together a diverse array of high-level participants including ministers responsible for higher education and research, university presidents, diplomats, researchers, experts, students, and representatives from scientific networks. This assembly positions the 2026 edition at a strategic intersection of public policy, research, and academic influence. The chosen theme, "In the Face of Global Geopolitical Challenges: What Role for Francophone Scientific Diplomacy?", reflects the ambition of the initiative. In an international context marked by profound transformations, science transcends its traditional role as a mere producer of knowledge and emerges as a vital tool for dialogue, cooperation, and positioning. This gathering aims to explore how scientific Francophonie can contribute meaningfully to discussions surrounding influence, knowledge circulation, and the development of shared solutions.

For Ibnou Zohr University, co-organizing this event is more than a symbolic gesture; it solidifies its position within leading academic networks and enhances its role as a crucial interface between regional territory, research, and international cooperation. The university intends to leverage this opportunity to enhance the regional scientific ecosystem by engaging its academic components, research structures, and institutional and socio-economic partners from the Souss-Massa region.

The stakes are twofold: firstly, to bolster the scientific attractiveness of the region by showcasing its academic excellence, and secondly, to foster new avenues of cooperation that could lead to concrete projects, mobility opportunities, research collaborations, and increased involvement of young talents in international dynamics.

The trajectory of the Global Francophonie Scientific Week illustrates the significance this event has gained over the years. Following successful editions in Bucharest, Cairo, Quebec, Toulouse, and Dakar, Agadir's hosting marks the city on the global map of Francophone knowledge. Over five years, the event has attracted more than 21,000 participants, over 900 speakers, and contributions from more than 50 countries, establishing itself as one of the major events in the Francophone scientific community.

The program planned for Agadir reflects its prestigious status, featuring a ministerial conference, scientific meetings, a congress for Francophone youth students, plenary sessions, thematic panels, lectures, and workshops. This structure aims to foster interactions among decision-makers, researchers, and students in an approach where science engages with issues of sovereignty, development, and influence.

Hosting this event reinforces the growing importance of scientific diplomacy and Francophonie in national public policies. For Agadir, it represents an opportunity to enhance its image not only as a regional economic or tourist hub but also as an academic and scientific center.
