Uganda's Latest Ebola Outbreak Developments
The health authorities in Uganda have announced the confirmation of three new cases of Ebola, reported on Saturday, as the nation grapples with the proximity of the outbreak occurring in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This alarming development follows the World Health Organization's decision to elevate the public health risk level associated with the Ebola virus outbreak in the Congo from 'high' to 'very high' just a day prior.
In response to the escalating situation, Uganda suspended all forms of public transport to the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Thursday. The presence of the Ebola virus within Uganda was first confirmed on May 15, following the identification of two infected individuals, one of whom unfortunately succumbed to the disease. In an official statement released on Saturday, the Ugandan Ministry of Health disclosed that the total number of confirmed cases in the country has now risen to five, following the identification of these new infections.
